When children, they are being raised,
Instructions, "life", must learn,
Some, they catch on quickly, though
Each one's a different bairn.
The one in question, (fictional),
A 'tomboy' rough, was he,
ALWAYS into trouble,
With others, couldn't agree.
Aft punishing 'wrongdoings'
The father told the son
To hammer spike into a tree
For each and every one
Whene'er atonement offered
And it was well received,
The son was told to remove spike
That's all 'twas, he believed.
However, MANY years that passed
And numerous spikes been used,
The tree it had to be removed
His 'lesson', soon infused.
The bark of tree was stripped away
To son's embarrassment,
The spike scars STILL were noticed
E'en aft. those years were spent.
The father, calm, reflective,
His lesson, had been shown.
That words, which cannot be unsaid,
Leave scars, to you, unknown.
