School Transfer Exam

Living in the U.K. At age eleven years, A transfer test is carried out, Can cause some tears or cheers All five brothers above me, Had passed this 'transfer test' My mother felt my tension, To keep up with the rest. That 'tension' could cause seizure, Which came sporadically, Not knowing WHEN 'twould happen, She did look out, for me. Not looking for disruption, When under so much stress, Which could have put my peers off Their train of thought, no less. Months earlier she visited The principle at school, He was a guy quite open, As 'old man', pretty 'kewl' With him and with the school board, Conclusion, they came to, The 'test' done, if in hospital, Was one, that I could do. The test by all my school peers, Had, months apart, tests, two, However, only ONE test  By me, was giv'n to do.  So when results were posted,  My thoughts, if failed, implore,  The second part, I wanted,  To help increase my score.  However, and I'm grateful, I to...

THE ROCKWAY ENTERTAINERS. [an acronym]

T his group of folk who love to sing,     H ave entertained, to pleasure, bring,     E xcitedly, with lively zing.                   R educing some of us to tears.                O f 'JOY', I'll add, not woe,                      C onductors? well of them, there's two   K arl urges us to 'go'.                               W ith ages 'fifties' and beyond ,                    A ll from here, and 'cross the 'pond'.              Y es, there's 'grey'  plus 'nay' and  'blonde'    E ntertainment's in our name,                     N otes, so musical, our fame,           ...

Don't be Disappointed.

You ever gone on holiday That wasn't up to scratch?  Saw brochure with a plush hotel, Reality did not match? What they had promised freely, To get your attention, Wasn't what was witnessed, Some things, did not mention. Maybe food was not the best, Was not, what was expected, The area, too far from town, Made you feel so dejected. * * * * * * * * * * * * People say the afterlife  In Hell, one party be, They WILL be disappointed If THAT's what's hoped to see. A holiday is short term, Next life, it's ETERNAL, Choose wisely and do, early, For Hell, it IS  infernal.

Aerocrete

An area in Belfast, Fortwlliam Park, it’s named, Homes there, for the wealthy, The ‘posh’ and well acclaimed. At bottom of the roadway, As one drives down, ’twas seen A builders merchant, Aerocrete, A place I’d often been A gang of guys, some females, (“Ma Baker” comes to mind,) Did work in ‘Pricing Office’ No better bunch, you’d find. Billy, Thomas, Michael, Grahame, “Ma Baker” known as Joan, A lunchtime darts game often played, With “Sink taps” a.k. - John. A lot of fun was had back then, It made the days fly fast, Too soon, they became ‘memories’ We sure, though, had a blast.                                         Composed on spec after a request from Grahame Todd

Poor Memory

Don't want to be a burden On family or friend, Have cared for those, advanced stage, Right up until their end. 'Twas easier for me though, Their young life, I knew not, So did accept them as they were, Didn't know, what they forgot. Though when it does get closer, Not even 'family' Quite difficult it is t'accept Whene'er the person's ME. When I can recall years gone by, As if 'twas yesterday, Instruction giv'n, too soon, gone, Know SOMETHING's gone awry. So bare with me I'm pleading, If  'not myself', I seem, In mind, I may be going through files, Right word or phrase to cream. It may not come instantly, As words did, years gone by, There's so much more now crammed there, So THAT's the reason why.

Sad News : March 27th

A HORRID day for me, 't'as been, With mem'ry issues, poor, A Doctor's 'ppointment, it was made, So it could be made sure. A few tests, they were carried out, Some questions, they were posed, Early onset Altzheimers  Has now been diagosed.   The future, 'tis uncertain,  With disease I've acquired,  My driving days? up in the air,  T hankful, I have retired.  'Twill be for me, much harder,  Since nearly 40, was,  Before my first car did acquire,  Those seizures, were the cause. A test, for driving, needed 'Twill be in a few day,  I'm fearful of the outcome,  So asking, those who pray,  To send some towards Heaven,  Where dwells Creator God,  Whate'er His will, be carried out, The outcome, will Him, laud.  MY preference, show compassion,  And I will pass  the test, To keep me able, still, to drive, And His name WILL be blest.  (Test scheduled for April 25th.   I had predicted this in anoth...

My Parents

My parents, how I miss them so,          They LOVED me, as the rest,        However, due to my illness,        Cared for me, with more zest.       Mum worried about ALL of us,        Though when they reached 18,        She worried LESS for them, as she        Had done her job, ’twas seen.        However, both continued to        Show me love, with concern,        Due to the longterm ailment, had,        Solution, they did yearn.       Dad drove me, just like a chauffeur,       H is love,  great, did a bound,       The 'bonding' times in car, we shared,       A love, e'erlasting, found.       When working as a Tradesman, he,       S ome overtime, w ou...

Progression?

AMAZING, we survived, indeed We HAD to ‘THINK’, to WRITE, AND READ, Walk to library’s, g et a book, ALSO, we were taught to COOK. Thread a needle, darn a sock, To do that NOW, they’d die of shock. They PRINT when writing - cursive's GONE Their BOOKS, - on line,  Real print's a "yawn", The 'fast food' industry, did GROW, Home made meals? - to cook, - too slow. And YET they SAY, "progression's made" Personally, I'd give them  'F' grade. Also, their spelling, "a-tro-shush" Use numbers, making words, They will not w8, if U R L8, Clockface, for them, absurd. Oh to return to bygone days, Which weren't THAT long ago, And while change wasn't just as FAST, It wasn't 'snail's pace' SLOW.

The Computer Brain

The brain's a super computer,  That SELDOM gets to rest, Unless in induced coma, Though with CARE, works its best. It's sofware is updated Through life experiences, By reading, education, And RESTING, when it says. More time spent on computer,  The man made type, not 'brain' Will mean it will work slower, So t'shut down, one MUST train. Thus, full 8 hours of sleeping A world of good will do, Though fo'many individuals, They CAN work well with few. The Hard Drive needs some maintainance, For brain, think "Gratitude"  Keep journal, meditation, Will do the world of good.
